旧ソ連のイメージとは違って、実に西欧的な町で、帝政ロシア時代の宮廷の華やかさを伝えています。私が訪れた際は2003年の建都300年祭に向けて、あちこちで工事が行われていました。化粧直しが完了すると、一段と美しくなることでしょう。
Unlike the genaral image of the cities of ex-USSR, St. Petersburg is filled with "Western" atmosphere, conveying the image of the historic days of Imperial Russia. When I visited, construction works were going on everywhere in preparation for the festival in 2003 commemorating the 300th years since the establishment of the capital city. After completion the city would become more magnificent.
