ウイーンからドナウ川を航行する高速艇で入りました。街の中心部は西欧文化の伝統そのものであり、ヨーロッパ各都市の中でも最も美しい町の一つだと思います。この国が鉄のカーテンの向こう側にあったのは、やはり、歴史や文化を無視して人為的になされたものというしかないと感じられました。帰りは鉄道にしましたが、駅の窓口で予約ができず、このあたりは社会主義時代の悪弊の名残りなのかもしれません。
I arrived at Budapest by boat from Wien(Vienna), Ausria, along River Danube. In the city center there lived vivid Western European traditon. I thought it one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Nothing but artificial force kept it behind the "iron curtain" in contrary to the history and culture. After several days' stay I left the city by train. But the railway office at the central station wasn't able to make reservation even on a train of the following day, which might be a regretable passover from socialism days.
