このパウエル湖はダムで渓谷を水没させてできた人造湖で、建設時には自然保護と開発をめぐって大きな議論になったそうです。白いケーキにカカオパウダーを振り掛けたような不思議な色の岩肌（映画「猿の惑星」の撮影はここで行われたとか）を見ると、青々とした水面との対比も見事ですが、元の状態も見てみたい気にさせられます。
Lake Powell is a man-made lake. Glen Canyon has been sunk into water as a large dam was built. At the construction there was an intense debate between conservation and development. The strange color of the rocks looked like a cream cake covered with cacao powder. (The movie "Planet of Monkeys" was located here.) It did look great in contrast with blue water of the lake. Yet I would like to see the canyon as it had been, too.
