旧植民地のインドネシアの料理店がたくさんありました。ヨーロッパでは当時あまり見かけなかったKFCがあったのも印象に残っています。飾り窓地区でも有名な盛り場は、新宿歌舞伎町のような感じです。オランダ人は個人の自由意思を非常に大事にするので、軽度な麻薬も許されており、夜の盛り場は部外者からはちょっと異様な雰囲気があります。夜は怖かったので、飾り窓地区は朝に見学してきました。
There are a lot of Indonesian restaurants, which used to be a Dutch colony. Also I remember a KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) restaurant which were rather rare in Europe in those days. Night spots area in Amsterdam such as the pretty famous "ornament-window" street looked like Kabukicho, Shinjuku, Tokyo. As Dutch people respect free decisions of individuals, they even permit "light" drugs. To outsiders like me these night spots appeared rather terrible. Since I was afraid of going at night, I went to see the "ornament-window" street in the morning.
