宮内庁職員の方のガイドの下でグループで観覧する必要があるのですが、勝手な行動をしないよう、皇宮警察の見張りも付きます。皇宮警察はグループの最後尾に立って、目を光らせているのですが、残念なことに、私が参加した際の皇宮警察担当者が最低でした。立入制限区域に入るような参加者はいなかったにもかかわらず、長い警棒を常にわざと地面に引きずって、大きな音を立て、参加者を威嚇していました。自分の力を誇示したいのかもしれませんが、観覧者はまるで羊飼いに追われる家畜のようでした。宮内庁職員の方はせっかく丁寧に案内してくださったのに、このせいで気分を害されまくりでした。京都御所を観覧した際の皇宮警察担当者はそんなことはなく、礼儀正しかったので、この担当者の個人的資質の問題なのでしょう。
［追記］その後、修学院離宮を再訪したときの担当者は大変穏やかでした。やはり、特定の者の問題のようです。
Visitors are required to act in a group accompanied by a guide from the Imperial Household Agency. The group is also supervised by an officer of the Imperial Palace Police. The police officer supervises and controls visitors from the rear end of the group. Unfortunately the officer of my group was terrible. He always dragged his long police baton, intentionally making big noise, apparently menacing the visitors though no visitor dared to enter the off-limit area. Probably he wanted to demonstrate that he was the master. We were like domestic animals whipped by a shepherd. The guide of the Imperial Household Agency was nice and friendly. But that officer badly spoiled the precious event. The problem doesn't seem to be organizational but personal, however, as another Imperial Palace Police officer at the Kyoto Imperial Palace was polite and far from such behavior.
[suppl.] When I revisited Shugakuin Rikyu, the officer was polite. Thus the problem definitely seems to belong to a particuler individual.
