きちんとした都市計画に基づいて造り上げられた「人工の」都市だけに、整然としていて、公園も多く、きれいな町です。反面、観光ポイント以外のオフィス街は夕暮れ以降になると、人通りも少なくなり、少し怖いです。ニューヨークから列車で行ったこともありますが、本数も多くて快適な上に、時刻表どおりに到着して、かえってビックリしてしまいました。
Washington is a "man-made" city built under a comprehensive urban planning. The area is well planned and rather beautiful with quite a few parks. On the other hand, it might be scaring to wander around the office area after business hour as few people were there after darkness. I visited DC once by train from New York City. The train operated frequently and the trip was quite comfortable. Yet I was most impressed by the fact that the train arrived on schedule!
