私が訪れたのは9.11同時テロの前なので、中まで入れました。身元の知れない外国人旅行客を国の中枢に入れてくれるんですから、さすが民主主義の国だなと思いました。（もちろん過去形です。）
As I visited before the 9.11 terrorist attack I could enter into the Whitehouse building. I was amazed that they admitted forein travellers like me to one of the centers of the government. I admired how well democracy workED there.
